A perfect birthday in sound

I celebrated a birthday last week, a big one, the kind of number you never think you will get to. I actually feel pretty good about it, happy to have lived this many years and excited about the next ones. Lot's happened last week including a trip with friends to Iceland, there are a few photo's on this journal and on my Flickr. Whilst in Iceland, me and my twin brother exchanged presents we had made for each other. I'd made Simon an archive box of photographs from birth to now.

Simon made me a vinyl record with my life in 40 minutes of sound contained in the grooves. It is the best present anyone has ever given me. The thought and care Simon has put into it is amazing. I'm not going to put it online, apart from one small part, which connects to my work at People Who Do. He made People Who Do some sonic branding - I love it, and it goes along nicely with some beautiful images Kyle Bean and Jean-Luc Brouard created for us, one of which is at the top of this page.

For those that know about or are interested in sound stuff, the sounds you are about to hear are created on his Buchla 200e electric music box, Sequential Circuits Prophet 600 and a Critter and Guitari Kaleidoloop. The slow glide to harmony nods to the THX Deep Note sonic logo which in turn borrows (some would say steals) from Paul Beaver and Bernie Krause's 'Spaced'.
