We just watched a great documentary about New York photographer Saul Leiter, and I suggest you watch it whilst it’s still available on the iPlayer.
It’s a very personal documentary, with Saul sharing stories of life as a painter, becoming a photographer and his relationship with artist and model Soames Bantry, which was really touching. There was a real sense his heart was broken by her death in 2002.
It was lovely to see his enjoyment sifting through old prints and slides and wandering the streets of NYC with his now digital camera. He came across as a wonderful man whose life has been enriched by his creative pursuits.
